Baseball clinic at Farming
Farming-The Minnesota Twins and Play Ball Minnesota will conduct a free baseball clinic Thursday, June 25 at Flames Park in Farming.
There will be two sessions. One will be from 2-3;30, for six to nine-year-olds. A second session, for 10 to 16-year-olds will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. 
The clinics are open to any boys or girls who are interested in improving their baseball and softball skills. There is no need to register before the day. Those interested need only show up with their glove. The coaches will be provided by the Minnesota  Twins and their sponsors. In the event  of bad weather the alternate site is the Albany Area High School gym. Registration prizes available on first come first serve basis.

Nick Merged qualified for the medal round of the 145 Class AA tournament
He now wrestles in the consolation semi finals. Mergen (41-2) won 4-2 defeating Brady Keefe of Stewertville (26-10). He faces Conner Denman (33-9)  Cloquet/Esko.
Mergen defeated Denman 8-7. He now facedJackson Schauer (39-2), Grand Rapids for third place and won that match 6-4 and finished 43-2 on the year.

Albany State Wrestling
Nick Mergen (40-1), 145,  defeated Ibraham Ibraham (28-13) of Columbia Heights by pin at 3:44 in the first round of the Class AA state wrestling tournament. Mergen will face Griffin Parriott of New Prague (43-0) in the quarter finals. Parriott pinned his opponent Taw Lo Moo (25-11) of St. Paul Washington Technology Magnet at 1:25. In the quarterfinals Parriott (44-0) edged Mergen(40-2)  2-1. Mergen (41-2) topped Moo 25-12 in the first round wrestlebacks he begins competition Saturday morning in the second round of wrestlebacks.  That is the final elimination round of the tournament. The winners qualify for the medal round, but can finish no  higher than third place.

Huskies have state wrestler
Nick Mergen, 145, took the championship of his weight class in the Section 8AA tournament at Perhman today. Mergen will compete in the State Class A tournament beginning Friday morning.

Albany (A) finished fifth at the Purple Pride Wrestling tournament Friday, Feb. 6, 2015. Earning first for Albany were Nick Mergen (145) and Cody Kerfeld (170). Mitchell Kotschevar (170) took second place. Third was earned by Jordan Kittelson (182). Video can be seen at

Huskie wrestling milestone reached

The Albany Huskies Nick Mergen won the 145 division of the Big Ole Tournament today at Alexandria. He capped the day winning his 100th career match.

Mergen was the only Huskie to take a championship. Jordan Kittelson (182) reached the championship match but finished in second place. Also reaching the semi-finals were Mitchell Kotschevar (160) and Brayan Guevara (195). Albany finished seventh as a team.
It was the second outing in as many days for the Huskies. They were defeated 43-19 at Becker on Saturday. Kotchevar, Kittelson, Nick and Marcus Mergen all had wins.

Huskies take dual meet

Using four pins the Albany Huskies posted a 37-29 win over Sauk Centre-Melrose Tuesday, Jan. 26 at Melrose. The match was back and forth until some late match pins by the Huskies.

Albany Triangular

Nick Mergen and Lucas Womack posted two wins at the Albany Triangular Tuesday. Jan. 13. Albany was defeated 60-17 by Little Falls and 36-30 by Holdingford.
