Volleyball playoffs begin

The Albany Huskies volleyball team defeated seventh-seeded Paynesville Area 3-1 to advance in the Sub-Section 6AA-South playoffs. The Huskies, seeded number two, now host third-seeded St. Cloud Cathedral on the home court next Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs were co-champions of the West Central South Conference with a 7-6 record along with BOLD; they finished 12-14 overall.

Annandale and Rocori (the top seed) are the other two teams still going in the south sub-section.

Huskies get number two football seed

Albany, 7-1 overall, is the number two seed in Section 8-4A football playoffs that begin next Tuesday. The Huskies have a first-round bye and then host the winner of the Rocori-vs.-Fergus Falls winner on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.

In their last regular season game, the Huskies beat up a very good Zimmermann squad 39-10 to clinch second place in the Granite Ridge Conference (6-1) behind champion Becker. Zimmermann finished 6-2 in the regular season and 5-2 (third) in the GRC.

1st Detroit Lakes (8-0)
2nd Albany (7-1)
3rd Rocori (4-4)
4th Little Falls (5-3)
5th Thief River Falls (4-4)
6th Fergus Falls (2-6)

Conference champions!

The Albany Huskies volleyball team earned a share of the Granite Ridge Conference championship with a 3-1 win over St. Cloud Cathedral on Oct. 14. They improve to 17-11 with the win and now wait for playoff seeding before beginning the Sub-Section 6AA-South tournament on Oct. 24 at home.

The Huskies finished 9-1 in the GRC, tied with Mora for first place. Read more about the volleyball team's successes in next week's Albany Enterprise.

Braham tournament

The Albany Huskies volleyball team won the Braham tournament on Saturday.

The Huskies won 25-20, 25-13 over Coon Rapids and then swept Braham 25-15, 28-26 and Barnum 25-3, 25-10 in the pool play matches. Against Kimball Area in the championship match, Albany soundly defeated Kimball Area 25-11, 25-14 to claim the title.

Now 14-11 overall and 6-1 in the Granite Ridge Conference, the Huskies play next at Foley on Tuesday night.

Huskies throttle Mustangs

The Albany Huskies football team bounced back in grand fashion from their first loss of the year by hammering the Mora Mustangs 62-0 for their fifth win of the season. Making it even more exciting was that the win was on Homecoming night.

Next week the Huskies travel to Foley for another Granite Ridge Conference game.
