The Albany Huskies football team blasted Belle Plaine on the road for a successful start to the 2014 gridiron season. The Tigers, who were tri-champions in the Minnesota River Conference last year, are a Class 3A school.
Junior quarterback Taylor Fourre had three rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown with six carries for 60 yards. Kyle Birr was the leading rusher with 136 yards on four carries.
After Belle Plaine scored first to go up 7-0, Nick Mergen ran in a four-yard touchdown and kicked the PAT to tie it up. The Huskies eventually scored 23 unanswered points in the first quarter and led 37-15 at halftime.
The Huskies outscored the Tigers 14-0 in the third quarter.
Albany's next game is at Little Falls in the first Granite Ridge Conference game of the season. The Flyers won a wild shoot out over Thief River Falls at Northland Community and Technical College by a 43-40 score.
