Holthaus takes 5th at State Wrestling, Huskies girls' basketball falls in semis

Staples-Motley's girls' basketball team ended Albany's season with a 62-57 win in the Sub-Section 6AA-North semifinal round on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies finish 24-4 overall after going 16-0 in the Granite Ridge Conference to claim the championship in their first season as members of the league. The 24 wins are the most in a season for the Huskies since the 2007-08 season, when they went 30-2 and won the Class 2A state championship.

At the state wrestling tournament, junior Carter Holthaus earned a 6-4 win by decision in the fifth place match at the 152-pound division of the Class 2A state tournament.

Huskies girls' basketball advances in playoffs

The Albany Huskies bludgeoned #5-seed Pierz on Thursday night 74-45 to advance to the sub-section semifinal round. They face #1-seeded Staples-Motley on Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. John's University in a battle of state-ranked teams.
