Huskies girls' basketball loses to Thief River Falls

The Albany Huskies girls' basketball team fell in the championship game of the Little Falls Christmas tournament on Saturday by a 53-45 score to #10-ranked Thief River Falls.

The Prowlers improved to 11-1 with the win, while the Huskies are now 8-2 overall.

Up next: Albany hosts Mora (4-4, 1-2 GRC) in Granite Ridge Conference action on Thursday, Jan. 4. The following night they travel to Sauk Centre to face the 8-0 Mainstreeters.

Huskies get past Braves for 3rd at Willmar

The Albany Huskies boys' basketball team defeated Benson 64-57 in the third-place game of a Christmas tournament at Willmar on Thursday night. Albany (3-4 was on fire on the three-point line by hitting nine out of 14 shots launched beyond the arc; they were also 15-of-19 at the charity stripe. Nick Raeker hit four threes to go with five steals, while John Elliot also added 12 points to pace the Huskies. Benson (1-6) was a cool 22-for-62 from the floor and trailed 32-24 at halftime.

The Huskies girls' basketball team opens up tournament action at Little Falls on Friday when they face St. Cloud Apollo (1-6) at 2 p.m.

Huskies lose to NL-S at boys' basketball tournament

At Willmar on Wednesday night, the Albany Huskies boys' basketball team trailed 33-22 to New London-Spicer at halftime in a 67-47 loss to the Wildcats (4-4) in the annual Bremer Bank Holiday Classic.

Albany (2-4) faces Benson in the third-place game tonight. The Braves are 1-5 after losing 71-51 to Willmar in the other semifinal.

Both Albany basketball squads win tonight

In a non-conference match up between sub-section rivals, the Albany Area Huskies boys' basketball team defeated Pierz tonight 65-55.

Against Princeton in a Granite Ridge Conference game, the Albany Area girls' basketball team won 66-57.

Crusaders edge Huskies boys' basketball team

Final in a Granite Ridge Conference boys' basketball game tonight: St. Cloud Cathedral 77, Albany 69. Up next: the Huskies (1-3) host undefeated Pierz (4-0) in an important sub-section match up on Thursday night.

Boys' basketball falls to Annandale, girls' basketball crushes Zimmerman

In their first home game of the season, the Albany Huskies boys' basketball team lost a well-played game 74-65 to #7-ranked Annandale in non-conference action. The Cardinals are 4-1 and suffered their first loss of the season last night in a "shot clock" game to St. Cloud Cathedral 91-85.

Up next: the Huskies (1-2) travel to Cathedral next Tuesday night for the Granite Ridge Conference opener.

In their first game on the road since the season opener, the Albany Huskies girls' basketball team crushed Zimmerman 70-34 in the Granite Ridge Conference opener. The Thunder fell to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the GRC.

Up next: a home game against St. Cloud Cathedral (3-1, 2-0 GRC) next Tuesday in another GRC game.

Huskies downed by Mustangs in wrestling action

In their first dual meet of the season and the Granite Ridge Conference opener, the Albany Area Huskies wrestling team lost 51-29 to visiting Mora on Tuesday night. Up next: a dual meet at non-conference Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Friday.

This wasn't posted over the weekend, but you can read more about it in this week's Enterprise...the Huskies girls' basketball team was cooled off by Annandale in a 55-51 loss last Friday. They are 3-1 overall and host Minnewaska Area on Thursday in a non-conference, sub-section match up with the 1-4 Lakers. It will be a good tune up before the Granite Ridge Conference opener on Friday at Zimmerman. The Thunder were 2-2 heading into their conference opener on Tuesday against Becker.

At the Granite Ridge Conference Kick Meet at Cathedral, the Pawettes Dance team placed fourth with 11.5 rank points. The Crusaders took first with three rank points.

Mora vs. Albany wrestling is on KASM

A Granite Ridge Conference dual wrestling meet between Mora and Albany Area is on KASM 1150 AM tonight.

Huskies blast Pioneers in girls' basketball action

The Albany Huskies girls' basketball team won 63-42 over visiting Pierz in a sub-section match up on Tuesday night. Now 3-0 overall, the Huskies host 2-1 Annandale on Friday night to cap a three-game home stand. The Cardinals are in Section 5AA but always prove to be tough competition.

Tomorrow night the Huskies boys' basketball team has one of its toughest tests of the season when they travel to fifth-ranked Melrose Area in a crosstown border battle. The Dutchmen will be playing in their season opener.

Albany's wrestling team travels to the Big Lake Invitational on Friday night with a 4 p.m. start time.

On Saturday, the Albany Pawettes dance team hosts a very exciting Top Hat Invitational beginning at 12 p.m.

Albany vs. Pierz girls' basketball is on KASM tonight

Kirby Hemmesch will have play-by-play coverage of the girls' basketball team between two teams who squared off in last season's Sub-Section 6AA-North playoff opener. The Huskies won that match up 61-53 to move on to the semifinals, where they lost to eventual Class 2A state runners-up Sauk Centre.

Albany is 2-0 this season, while Pierz is 1-1.

Albany places 8th at Litchfield wrestling invitational

At Litchfield on Saturday, the Albany Huskies wrestling team placed eighth with 70 points. Matt Schlangen took second at 113, while Carter Holthaus took second at 152 to lead the Huskies.
