Huskies sweep Becker

Albany's volleyball team is enjoying an incredible start to their first run through the Granite Ridge Conference as first-year members this fall. They beat Becker 3-0 tonight at the Bulldogs' house to improve to 7-0 in the league and 13-5 overall.

Up next: a home match next Tuesday, Oct. 2 against a very solid and talented Zimmerman squad that is 14-3 overall and only one match out of first place in the Granite Ridge Conference at 6-1. A win by the Thunder pulls them into a first-place tie with Albany in the league standings. Zimmerman's only GRC loss was by a 3-0 score on Sept. 6 at Mora (12-6, 6-2 GRC).

Albany Huskies light up Milaca on the gridiron

The Albany Huskies football team made it three wins in a row with a dominating 40-14 win at Milaca tonight in a Granite Ridge Conference match up. The Wolves remain winless at 0-4.

The Huskies (3-1) have their biggest test yet of the season when they host Becker next Friday for their Week 5 game. The Bulldogs destroyed defending conference champion Zimmerman 56-22 tonight to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Becker is the last undefeated team in the Granite Ridge Conference. Albany and Zimmerman are tied for second at 3-1.

Huskies volleyball sweeps Milaca

Seven kills and three ace serves by Amber Tomsche led the Albany Huskies volleyball team in a dominating 25-10, 25-15, 25-12 win over Milaca on the home courts Thursday night. Sam Schlangen fired up 26 set assists with five ace serves, while Kristin Buttweiler had eight kills for the Huskies.

Albany moves to 5-0 in the Granite Ridge Conference and 10-1 overall. Hot on their heels in the standings are Zimmerman and Mora, who are 5-1 in the GRC.

Up next: the Class 2A Showcase tournament in Burnsville. The Huskies open up on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Concordia Academy of Roseville. Following their match against the Beacons, the Huskies take on Belle Plaine (8-2), who is the #4-ranked team in the latest Class 2A coaches' state rankings. Albany is also on that elite list at #14.

Huskies volleyball wins in four at Princeton

The Albany Huskies volleyball team continued its hot start to the season with a 3-1 win at Princeton on Tuesday night in a Granite Ridge Conference match.

The Huskies are 9-1 overall and winners of six straight, while the Tigers fall to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the GRC. Albany leads the GRC standings with a 4-0 mark, while three teams are hot on their trail. Mora (5-1), Zimmerman (4-1) and St. Cloud Cathedral (4-1) are in a virtual tie for second place.

In a non-conference girls' swimming and diving meet in Melrose, the Huskies lost 107-73.

Huskies volleyball defeats Melrose Area

The Albany Huskies volleyball team defeated I-94 and Section 6AA rival Melrose Area 3-1 last night in a non-conference match. Albany improves to 8-1 overall and hit the road next Tuesday to Princeton to face the 1-4 Tigers. Princeton shook the winless status by beating winless Becker (0-8) last night 3-2.

The Albany Huskies girls' swimming and diving team won a close battle with Granite Ridge Conference rival Little Falls by a 57-45 margin. Albany senior Rachel Tiede set a new school record in the 500 FS while earning a championship time of 5:37.60.

Huskies football gets in the win column

The Albany Huskies football team overwhelmed Mora in a Granite Ridge Conference game 28-0 on Friday night. They host undefeated (2-0) St. Cloud Cathedral next Friday in Week 3 of the season. The Crusaders drubbed Little Falls on Friday at SCSU.

The Albany Huskies volleyball team defeated the visiting Little Falls Flyers 3-0 tonight in a Granite Ridge Conference match. They improved to 3-0 in the league with the win.

Huskies volleyball moves to 2-0 in the Granite Ridge Conference

The Albany Huskies volleyball team defeated St. Cloud Cathedral 3-1 on Tuesday night. Game scores were 21-25, 25-15, 25-18 and 27-25.

The Huskies (5-1 overall) are next in action on Thursday when Little Falls comes to town. The Flyers are 2-5 overall and 1-0 in the GRC.
