Sub-Section 6AA-North boys' basketball playoff seeding is tonight

Tony Harlander (#5) is one of the top players on this year's Albany Huskies team.
The Albany Huskies (12-11) are in the running for either the #4 or #5 playoff seed in the eight-team Sub-Section 6AA-North. They finished 7-3 in the West Central North Conference, good for a two-way tie for second place with Sauk Centre.

Huskies girls' basketball opens the playoffs at home on Thursday

The Sub-Section 6AA-North quarterfinal round begins this Thursday night, Mar 1., when the Albany Huskies host #5-seed Pierz with a 7 p.m. tip off.

Albany is the #4 seed behind #1 Sauk Centre, #2 Staples-Motley and #3 Melrose Area.

The semifinals are on Saturday at St. John's University.

Holthaus qualifies for state wrestling meet

Albany sophomore Carter Holthaus takes a 24-15 record into the Class AA individual state wrestling tournament in the 138-pound bracket. Holthaus opens 'state' against junior Quade Zupko (37-7) of Chisago Lakes Area on Mat 8.

Action for Class AA begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 2, at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The quarterfinals are at 7 p.m. that night.

Huskies boys' basketball falls to Sauk Centre

The Albany boys' basketball team finished the 2011-12 West Central North Conference schedule in second place, tied with Sauk Centre, at 7-3 in the league standings.

Tonight in Albany, the Mainstreeters picked up a 57-52 win to split the conference series between the two conference rivals. The Huskies led 32-30 at halftime.

Big showdown coming tonight in Albany

The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters come to town for a huge West Central North Conference battle with the Albany Huskies tonight. Both teams are jockeying for better seeding rights in the upcoming Sub-Section 6AA-North playoffs.

Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. at the Albany High School.

In news related to the Albany girls' basketball team, the Huskies (16-8 overall) earned the #4 playoff seed for Sub-Section 6AA-North and open up the playoffs at home next Thursday, Mar. 1. Their opponent will be fifth-seeded Pierz, and tip-off will be at 7 p.m. at the Albany High School.
