Sub-Section Final bound!

The Albany Huskies volleyball team earned something they've been looking forward to all season long.

A rematch with the Mainstreeters of Sauk Centre.

The Huskies got what they wanted by defeating a senior-dominated Long Prairie-Grey Eagle squad in three sets on Tuesday night in the Sub-Section 6AA-North semifinals.

In game three, the Thunder had a sizeable lead, but Albany stormed back to finish the match in three with game scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-23.

Albany improved to 24-5 overall with their 13th straight win.

Two other Granite Ridge Conference teams are also still battling through their respective section playoffs. Mora will play for the Sub-Section 7AA-South title, while Zimmerman is in the Section 5AA Final Four round.

Huskies football season ends with loss to Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta

The Albany Huskies football team lost in the Section 6-3A semifinals at Big Cat Stadium in Morris by a 33-14 score on Saturday night. They finish with a 5-5 overall season.

Huskies volleyball wins playoff opener

The Albany Huskies volleyball team defeated Holdingford 3-0 to open up the Sub-Section 6AA-North playoffs. They face #3-seeded Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in the semifinal round next Tuesday at Rocori High School in Cold Spring.

The Albany Huskies (#2 seed) host the Holdingford Huskers (#7 seed) tonight in the quarterfinal round of the Sub-Section 6AA-North volleyball tournament. Action begins at 7 p.m.

The winner of the Huskies-vs.-Huskers match advances to the semifinal round next Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Rocori High School with an 8 p.m. match. They'll face the winner of the LP-GE/Minnewaska quarterfinal match.

The sub-section championship is at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Sauk Rapids-Rice High School.

Huskies win playoff football opener

The Albany Huskies dominated Melrose Area 24-6 in the section quarterfinals on Tuesday night. Now 5-4 overall, the 4th-seeded Huskies travel to Morris for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday night to take on the Morris Area-Chokio-Alberta Tigers.

Playoffs, playoffs, playoffs!

In a nutshell...

The Albany Huskies volleyball team earned the #2 playoff seed in the upcoming Sub-Section 6AA-North tournament.

The Albany Huskies football team was seeded #4 in Section 6AAA by the QRF standings and hosts Melrose Area (5-3) in the playoff opener next Tuesday night. The Huskies lost 20-7 at New London-Spicer to finish the regular season 4-4. They were 4-3 (4th) in the nine-team Granite Ridge Conference.

Huskies volleyball sweeps Cathedral

The Albany Huskies volleyball team improved to 10-0 in the Granite Ridge Conference with a 3-0 sweep over St. Cloud Cathedral on Thursday night. The Crusaders were still in contention to tie for the championship but now sit three matches out at 7-3 in the standings.

In girls' swimming and diving action, the Albany Huskies defeated St. Cloud Cathedral as well last night.

Huskies girls' cross country takes Purple Pride title, Volleyball team crushes Foley to clinch share of conference title!

It was a great night in Huskies Country on Tuesday night, with Albany's girls' cross country team winning their home Purple Pride meet by a wide margin, the boys' cross country team finishing as runners-up in the same meet while the Huskies volleyball team crushed Foley in a Granite Ridge Conference contest.

It was the 20th win of the season for the Granite Ridge Conference champion Albany volleyball team, who climbed to #19 in the latest Class 2A QRF rankings at and have nine wins in a row to their credit. In the GRC standings they are 9-0 with two matches remaining on the schedule. They host St. Cloud Cathedral this Thursday night and then travel to Little Falls next Tuesday to complete the regular season.

Albany girls' swimming and diving beats Montevideo

During a match up against Section 6A foe Montevideo, the Albany Huskies girls' swimming and diving team earned a 60-41 win on Tuesday night in the home pool.

Up next: another home meet on Thursday when the Huskies entertain St. Cloud Cathedral in a Granite Ridge Conference contest. They travel to Sartell on Saturday for the Section 6A True Team meet.

Huskies volleyball wins Braham Invitational

The Albany Huskies improved to 19-5 overall on the volleyball court this season with a 4-0 performance at Braham on Saturday. Along the way they defeated Princeton (25-9, 25-12), Barnum (25-17, 25-10), Rush City (25-9, 25-15) and St. Cloud Apollo (25-20, 25-16).

Up next: a home match against Foley next Tuesday. The Falcons are 1-14 overall and 1-7 in the Granite Ridge Conference.

Albany Huskies volleyball team dispatches Melrose Area

It was an epic, five-game barn burner that played out at Melrose Area high school on Thursday night, when the Albany Huskies volleyball team prevailed in the fifth set by a 15-13 score.

The Huskies are 15-5 overall and head to the Braham tournament on Saturday. They have three matches left on the Granite Ridge Conference schedule and hold an 8-0 record in the league.
