In Avon tonight, the Albany Huskies baseball team lost a first-place battle in the West Central North Conference in a 7-6 loss to Paynesville Area.
The Bulldogs clinched a share of the conference crown with the win and have a 7-2 mark in the loop. The Huskies, meanwhile, fall to second place at 6-3. They need Minnewaska Area to beat Paynesville next Tuesday in order to give them a shot at a co-championship. Albany plays at Sauk Centre that night.
The next game for the Huskies is tomorrow (Friday) at 5 p.m. against Milaca (3-10, 0-8 Granite Ridge Conference). The Wolves are the 7th-ranked team in Sub-Section 6AA-East, while the Huskies sit at #4 in the current standings.
