Albany Huskies baseball, softball teams win playoff games today

In a nutshell...the fifth-seeded Albany baseball team won 8-1 over Pierz in the playoff opener. The Pioneers, who hosted the game, were the four seed. The Huskies (12-9) face top-seeded Little Falls (20-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud in the semifinals.

In the Sub-Section 6AA-East championship, the Albany Huskies softball team (17-1) defeated third-seeded Little Falls 6-1. The Flyers (14-8) were the third seed. Both teams advance to next week's Section 6AA Final Four tournament, where the Huskies face Staples-Motley (12-8) on Tuesday in the winner's bracket final. The Cardinals beat Ottertail Central 10-7 in the Sub-Section 6AA-West championship today.
