Five-game thriller

In St. Cloud tonight, the Albany Huskies volleyball team earned an impressive 3-2 win over St. Cloud Cathedral to knock the Crusaders from the unbeaten ranks of the Granite Ridge Conference. The Crusaders entered the match with an 8-1 record.

Game scores were 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-11.

Next is a non-conference section match at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Thursday. The Huskies are 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference in a tie for second place with Mora. Becker is 2-0 at the top of the heap.

Huskies football battles Crusaders

On the home gridiron tonight in a Granite Ridge Conference battle, the Albany Huskies football team overcame a terrific performance by St. Cloud Cathedral and prevailed by a 21-14 score.

At 3-0 overall, the Huskies are the only undefeated team in the Granite Ridge Conference. They're tied for first place with Becker (2-1 overall) with 2-0 records. The Crusaders fall to 1-1 in the GRC and 2-1 overall.

Next week the Huskies will work to go to 4-0 on the season when Milaca comes to town. The Wolves are 1-2 after losing at Little Falls tonight 22-17.

Albany Huskies volleyball vs. Mora

The Mora Mustangs knocked the Albany Huskies volleyball team out of what was a three-way tie for first place in the Granite Ridge Conference with a 3-1 win at Mora on Thursday night.

The Huskies, 4-5 overall, are 2-1 in the GRC and travel to St. Cloud Cathedral next Tuesday night. The Crusaders are tied for first in the GRC with Becker at 2-0 each.

At the Little Crow Invitational, the Albany Huskies cross country teams each placed in the top five of the varsity races. The girls' squad took second place with 106 points behind champion Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd who had 67 points. In the boys' varsity race, the Huskies finished fourth. Next the cross country teams compete at Pierz on Monday.

Huskies volleyball beats Little Falls

The Albany Huskies volleyball team squared their overall record at 4-4 with a 3-1 win over Little Falls on the home court in Granite Ridge Conference action tonight. They improve to 2-0 in the conference and travel to Mora on Thursday to face a very tough Mustangs squad that has a 7-1 record.

The Flyers fall to 0-2 in the GRC and 1-3 overall.

Huskies sweep Falcons

The Albany Huskies volleyball team defeated Foley 25-9, 25-22, 25-19 tonight in their Granite Ridge Conference opener. Now 3-4 overall, they host Little Falls next Tuesday in another GRC match.

Huskies volleyball sweeps Holdingford

In a home match Tuesday, the Albany Huskies volleyball team beat Holdingford 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 for their second win of the season. Lyndsey Ostendorf had 27 set assists with four ace serves and nine digs. Erin Navratil had 13 kills and three ace serves, while Elizabeth DeGeest had six kills and three ace serves.

Up next is a home match on Thursday against Foley for the Granite Ridge Conference opener. The Falcons are 0-2 after losing 3-1 to New London-Spicer.

At Melrose on Tuesday, the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters lost 3-1 to the Dutchmen in a West Central Conference match.

At Melrose on Tuesday, the Albany Huskies girls' swimming and diving team lost 106-72 to the Melrose Area Dutchmen in a non-conference dual meet. The Huskies host Montevideo on Thursday.

Also coming on Thursday is a cross country meet for the Albany Huskies runners at Holdingford starting at 4:30 p.m.

Huskies volleyball border battle

The Albany Huskies volleyball team is gearing up for a border battle with Holdingford on Tuesday night at home. Both teams are searching for their second win of the season.

The match will count towards the Section 6AA standings, with the Huskers residing in the north sub-section and the Huskies in the south.
